Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama. I have been following Obama for over a year now and I not only think that he is a very inspiring person, but he is probably more representative of the general public than any other president that has been in office in my lifetime. Today is bittersweet for me though. Our nation proved that race is becoming less of an issue by electing Obama as our next president, but in Arizona Proposition 102 passed. This proposition will amend our state constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. There is no scientific way to justify this argument, and I think that religious arguments for this proposition are silly. Regardless of your religion, it is personal. One shouldn’t decide for another what is love, and we definitely shouldn't judge one another either. That is for our creator to do. Why deny a loving couple the right to be recognized as one? This is just as bad as some states not allowing interracial marriage in the 50s, and even worse than my husband's country not recognizing our marriage because we are of different faiths. I am sad that we have so many people in our state that are blinded by their ignorance and beliefs.

On another note, we are still planning our trip to Indonesia over the holiday break. We leave on December 24th and return on January 11th. I am still debating on how to keep in touch with everyone while we are away. I know several of you wanted to be able to check and know that we were safe as there was a really bad earthquake when we were there last time. I am trying out twitter. It allows me to post updates on the internet or via SMS. Check it out below and let me know what you think.

I am finally done with school! Well, at least for two months. I completed my bachelor's degree and have two whole months off before I start my masters. It feels kind of weird to go home and not have to do anything. I do have a lot of things I want to work on this summer though, and with the nice break in weather ( it's 82 out right now, and it's May, in Phoenix!) I am hoping to get some more planting done this weekend.

On a sad note, Sparky has been missing for a month now. He went out the doggie door, like he always does, and never came back. Ed and I think we saw him last night, but he ran away and we couldn't catch him. I don't know what the chances are that there is another cat in our neighborhood that is running around that is black with his white markings, but I am guessing they are slim. I am going to put some food out in hopes to lure him back. I can't imagine what spooked him. He has never run from me. I'll keep you updated.

We hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day weekend!

Hello from Pittsburgh! Edwin and I have been here for almost a day. He had a meeting all morning so I walked around and explored the city a bit. I also got a much needed hair cut. Edwin is out of his meeting now and we are going to go walk around some more. You can see the pictures that I have taken so far here .

Over the weekend I found out that I have been admitted tot he Master's program in educational psychology at Arizona State University. I am still waiting to hear back about the doctoral program in school psychology. I should know something this week.

For those of you that were planning on attending my graduation, it has moved from Friday May 9th to Saturday May 10th at 2 p.m. You will be able to watch the convocation ceremony online at http://webcast.tv.nau.edu/grad/  if you can't make it up to Flagstaff. This also means that we will be moving the party from Saturday night to Sunday early afternoon. Maybe we will do brunch. It'll be hot by then, so the earlier the better. I will post additional information closer to the date.

Edwin and I are an uncle and aunt for the third and fourth time this month! Edwin's sister gave birth to Allegra earlier this month and my youngest brother Jay's girlfriend just had a baby boy named Victor on January 31st. I will create a picture gallery in the next week or so. Upon congratulating my brother on becoming a father he immediately asked me when we would be having kids. "Not for at least another 5 years," has become my standard answer to that question. I also told him that it seems to be that we are going from youngest to oldest in this family when it comes to having kids, so I think Nicole is next. Sorry for the disappointment, but I want to finish school first. It's gotta be all about me if I want to get a Ph.D., and that just isn't possible with a baby.

On that note, I got an email this evening from the School Psychology Program at ASU. I have been invited to Applicant Day on February 22nd. Yea! I'm one step closer to getting in!

I had better get back to studying now, I have to finish the rough draft of my research proposal for a fellowship that I am applying for, and unfortunately it won't write itself!
